Cape Winemakers Guild Pre-Auction Tasting at Galvin La Chapelle Galvin Restaurants
The Cape Winemakers Guild is a "by invitation only" association comprising 46 members who jointly represent the pinnacle of South African winemaking. Formed more than 30 years ago, the Guild exists to promote innovation, best practice and excellence within the SA wine industry.
The highlight of the CWG calendar is an annual auction, held on the first Saturday of October, usually in Stellenbosch. Each winemaker is 'invited' to contribute a maximum of two wines into the auction, with never more than 100 x 6-bottle cases of each wine ever produced and sold. As such, the wines are both rare and highly sought after, and the auction attracts buyers and collectors from all over the world. In fact, the CWG auction now significantly outsells the Nederburg auction, and is considered to be the country's premier fine wine auction.
Pre-auction tastings are arranged in the weeks leading up to the October event, so we are delighted to be hosting a CWG tasting and dinner at Galvin La Chapelle on Friday 4th September. Our evening will commence with a courtyard tasting of a selection of the wines that will be going 'under the hammer' in October. We will then come inside for a dinner prepared by chef patron Jeff Galvin that will be accompanied by further CWG wines.
Your hosts for the evening will be Andrea Mullineux, CWG member and winemaker at Mullineux Family Wines, together with 'Galvin regular' Paul Plant, who has been attending the CWG auction for the past 15 years, and who promotes CWG wines in the UK.
The quality of South African wine is exceptional, and CWG wines represent the best of the best. You can be assured of a truly entertaining and informative evening.
