Chris Galvin has joined the chef line-up
Galvin Blog Posted: 27/10/2017

Chris Galvin has joined the chef line-up at Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium, launching in 2018. ‘Lifelong fan’ Chris Galvin will design the menu and oversee service at its On Four lounges and suites during a series of matches next season as part a deal with Levy Restaurants UK. Also Albert Roux, his son Michel Roux Jr and granddaughter Emily Roux as well as other internally acclaimed chefs will be taking turns to run service at the lounge for 12 matches a season. Christmas at Galvin
Galvin Blog Posted: 20/08/2017

Christmas at Galvin Ah, August - the height of summer! London by turns swelters and sulks as passing phases of glorious heat and sunshine trade places with the inevitable showers and days of sullen grey overcast. So what could be on our minds right now? The Summer Sale we have going on of course where we're offering some stunning menus at La Chapelle, the Bistrot and Galvin HOP! Also, with the opening of the grouse season just appearing in the rear-view mirror, our Glorious 19th sees the return of this most noble bird to the menu after a week's grace to let them hang and achieve perfection before they reach our table. This marks the turning of the season in the ...

A few thoughts on steak
Galvin Blog Posted: 23/07/2017

There are few menu items which evoke such an immediate response as a steak. For carnivores it has come to symbolise all that is and can be good about a meal - there is nowhere to hide with a steak as, however it is prepared and whatever cooking method is employed, there is only really the meat and the heat which is applied to it. As with anything which evokes great passion there are devotees of every cut and every method of cooking so we wanted to dig a little deeper in this month's blog, into some of the basics and a little of the history of what is arguably the most iconic of the cow's contributions to dining at table. First of all, for...

The Sunday Roast
Galvin Blog Posted: 30/05/2017

The Sunday roast belongs to all of us, and we all know who cooks it best. Lets give the Mum's of Great Britain a break this Sunday and treat them to a wonderful lunch. We think they deserve a break from peeling the potatoes you said you would peel and washing the dishes you said you would wash. The long old argument of a Sunday roast is the meat, and every household seems to have a preference. After all there are so many variables to consider, like what sides come with which meat. Lamb with mint sauce, chicken with sage and onion stuffing, pork with apple sauce and crackling. As great as each of those are it seems to be roast beef that is...

Natural wine trail from Beaujolais to Auvergne
Galvin Blog Posted: 08/03/2017

Natural wine trail from Beaujolais to Auvergne My career has always been studded by different gastronomic experiences and recently I felt it was time to take a journey which would focus on the natural wines of Beaujolais, Auvergne and The Loire - all lending themselves to the cooking at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe. In fact I should turn this around and say inspiring the cooking! Now open almost 12 years I wanted to remind myself of the heady days of 2005 when we first opened with a wine list created almost exclusively by Eric Narioo, owner of the legendary Le Caves de Pyrene. The early tastings Jeff my brother and I had with Eric were nothing less than life changing. Flavours unknown to...

Marylebone restaurants
Galvin Blog Posted: 19/02/2017

Marylebone restaurants Classic French cooking is synonymous with the Galvin restaurants and Bistrot de Luxe maintains this ethos. So it's always exciting when you hear, that what many would say to be the best restaurant in Marylebone, has a new menu. Bistrot is known for its use of the finest seasonal produce and ingredients, head chef Tom Duffill has created a reassuringly unpretentious menu which reaffirm it as a Marylebone restaurant destination. To underline Tom's keeping with the classic Bistrot feel and add a little every day luxury to the Marylebone restaurant scene, this Menu Gourmand is four courses with an aperitif for just £25. Dishes like the s...

Michelin star restaurants
Galvin Blog Posted: 04/01/2017

Michelin star restaurants As 2016 draws to a close we wanted to take a look back at what's been happening here at Galvin. This year has been a momentous one for the world but also, in our own far smaller way of course, a momentous one for us too. Amongst other things we have opened new restaurants, moved existing ones, been welcomed into the world of pubs in both London and Essex and retained two places in the list of London's Michelin starred restaurants. We also celebrated 11 years since opening Chris and Jeff's very first restaurant, the start of it all at Baker Street's Bistrot de Luxe. Not a bad list for a family-run group in uncertain times, even if we do say so...

Restaurants and Cocktail Bars Baker Street
Galvin Blog Posted: 06/12/2016

Restaurants and Cocktail Bars Baker Street Bistrot de Luxe It's been over a decade since Chris and Jeff opened the doors on their first restaurant together - Baker Street's now quietly iconic Bistrot de Luxe. In those eleven years a lot has changed ' in the industry, the area and definitely in the world ' but one thing that hasn't changed is the ethos at Bistrot. Classic French cookery with its feet firmly in the bistro tradition and a seasonality which, rather than being faddish, looks to make the best use of the finest ingredients as they come in to season ' this is what drives the offering. Wrapped up in this too is the relaxed ambience and service which always looks to be unobtru...

The Festive Season in Shoreditch
Galvin Blog Posted: 26/11/2016

The Festive Season in Shoreditch If you've been out and about lately you can't help but notice a few things - the chill in the air in the mornings, the riot of Autumn leaves now subdued as branches become barer and the darkness now coming in what used to be late afternoon. Add to this the explosion of decorations, lights and images of snowmen all around the place and, in the words of Bing Crosby, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. We're certainly not complaining, it's a wonderful time of year and we're, as always, taking the opportunity to get fully into the spirit by decking our halls - this year however, we've had a chance to go a little further. Just over a y...

This August we are continuing a tradition which we've been enjoying for a few years now - the creation of seasonal tasting menus bringing the very best of what we can do with the produce of high summer to the table. Spitalfields Restaurants - Summer at Galvin HOP

Spitalfields Restaurants - Summer at Galvin HOP In the last few weeks it's finally felt as if summer is actually a season at Galvin HOP, rather than just a grey and windy buffer between a grey and windy spring and uncertain autumn. London has stood glittering in the sunshine, fierce heat reflecting from every polished surface and the terraces of restaurants in Spitalfields have been full of hot and thirsty people in equal parts soaking up and hiding from the sun. It's been the same across the rest of London and it's felt at times like every spare scrap of pavement and rooftop has been dragooned into service to provide space to by turns revel in and complain about the heat. The Perfect Wine on Tap
Galvin Blog Posted: 10/03/2016

There are many ways of transporting and serving wine, the most common being wine in bottles. They have the advantage of portability, ease of opening and of course familiarity - all of which are fantastic when you intend to open a bottle and serve it within a short amount of time. Once you start to think about serving by the glass then parameters change and keeping fine wine in the best condition is difficult with bottles. At Galvin HOP we wanted to serve a perfect glass of wine every time so Andrea Briccarello, head wine buyer for the Galvin Group, decided on an innovative high-tech keg system. With this system the wine is transported in ...

We've been seriously impressed with some of the things this brewery does. Their recent collaboration with Kent brewery has produced a Japanese Pale Ale with Yuzu which is hands down one of the best things we've tasted all year. Head Chef Tom Duffill has put together a superb menu to bring it all together which you can see below. The competition is on for the crown of best wine or beer match; every dish will be paired with both and carefully explained by our bee...

Bistrot's Birthday Celebration
Galvin Blog Posted: 11/08/2015

Bistrot's Birthday Celebration It will be 10 years this September since Chris and Jeff opened Bistrot de Luxe and to celebrate we will be hosting an exclusive dinner on Saturday 5 September. Our philosophy has always been that great food should be affordable for all, so there are two different price brackets, over two sittings, and wine pairings if you would like them also. The menu comprises of Bistrot classics new and old which head chef Tom Duffill and his team will be carefully crafting. On the wine front, Andrea Briccarello has picked out a beautiful 2005 vintage Chateau La Tour de By, Medoc Cru, Bourgeois to accompany the main course - in keeping with our theme...

Great British Beer Festival During this year's Great British Beer Festival at Galvin Café a Vin, our affections will be turning from the noble grape to the grain (and the all-important hop!). Each day there will be a special on the menu paired with a fantastic beer from the Gipsy Hill brewery in South London, handpicked by head chef Jack Boast and head sommelier Andrea Briccarello. As an extra special treat for the Friday dinner (August 14th) there will be four food stations serving a different dish each matched with a Gipsy Hill brew. And exclusively for us, you will have the chance to be the first to taste Gipsy Hill's new brew, that will match perfectly ...

Galvin's Glorious 19th
Galvin Blog Posted: 13/07/2015

Galvin's Glorious 19th To celebrate the start of the shooting season, on Wednesday the 19th August, we will host a series of special menus with wine pairings at both Bistrot De Luxe and La Chapelle. And if that wasn't enough, we will also be including a classic grouse dish with game chips, watercress and bread sauce, which will be available on the - la carte menu at both restaurants. Of the dishes, our very own Jeff Galvin says: "We will be serving this dish from the 19th August after the grouse have been hung for a week. In the past we have had fun (and stress) racing the birds down on the 12th, tracking them from the moor to the kitchen for waiting guests. ...
