The Sunday roast belongs to all of us, and we all know who cooks it best. Lets give the Mum's of Great Britain a break this Sunday and treat them to a wonderful lunch. We think they deserve a break from peeling the potatoes you said you would peel and washing the dishes you said you would wash.

The long old argument of a Sunday roast is the meat, and every household seems to have a preference. After all there are so many variables to consider, like what sides come with which meat. Lamb with mint sauce, chicken with sage and onion stuffing, pork with apple sauce and crackling. As great as each of those are it seems to be roast beef that is the national treasure. Roast potatoes, carrots, horseradish and Yorkshire puddings, you don't get more British than that, do you? Both you know and we know, nothing compares to a roast dinner at home, but sometimes you want to someone else to do all the work, because lets face it, it's a lot of work! In this article we want to talk you through three very different but equally great Sunday roasts. Each offering great atmosphere and diverse menus. Galvin At Windows
We're aware this isn't your regular Sunday roast setting, a bright and airy white tablecloth restaurant, 28 floors above London. It may not be the first place you think of when you're hunting for a table for lunch, but let us give you a few reasons why it should be. At Windows Chef Patron Chris Galvin and Head Chef have created a three-course tasting menu for £55 a head. They have taken the crown jewel of British cuisine, the humble Sunday Roast and elevated it to Michelin heights. Don't worry, you will still find your Roast Beef and Yorkshire puddings, Pork with roast potatoes and apple sauce, but there will be adaptions of the familiar flavours you love. Try the Breast of corn-fed chicken, charred baby gem with leek tempura. Why not just throw out the rule book altogether and go with the fish? Roasted fillet of Cod, lentils, chilli, watercress and garlic shoot. this might be exactly what you're craving now that summer has arrived. We know that you rarely have a starter before your roast, and maybe you will squeeze in a dessert if your mum has knocked up her famous crumble, but you won't want to miss out on a single course. The Sunday Roast menu here at Windows has been created to make sure you leave satisfied without the risk of falling into that Sunday coma. Don't be a afraid of change, there is always next Sunday.

The Green Man
For those of you that want something familiar without the dread of peeling potatoes and washing up, the only place you should be having Sunday Roast is in be a pub. The Green Man Pub, just named 'The Best Pub in Essex' was a very personal venture for both Chris and Jeff Galvin, having grown up in Essex. The title Gastropub has been abused over the last five years, but we believe that we offer something special to the area. Set amongst 1.5 acres of riverside meadow amongst beautiful countryside, The Green Man is one of the oldest pubs in Essex.

We take Sunday roast rather seriously so we've taken it to another level to offer the best dining experience for you and your guests. Head Chef Jack Boast has created a seasonal 3 course menu, including a selection of roasts, priced at £21 for two courses and £25 for three courses. Along with this we have our 'Early Bird' offer, where if you book your lunch at 11.30 or 11.45 in the dining room your children eat complimentary. Chef Jack Boast has crafted a menu that is not only a traditional crowd-pleaser but one that takes a simple wholesome meal to gastronomic heights. Starters include a saddleback pork terrine, deep fried whitebait, parsnip and apple soup and Galvin cured salmon with rye bread. This is when we get down to the really tough choices, I mean how are you supposed to decide between roast Goosenargh chicken and sage stuffing, and a slow roasted brisket of Dedham Vale beef? Both with all the trimmings you could ever need. On Sunday at The Green Man we also have 'Host A Roast' where you can design your own family lunch, you choose the roast, we do the cooking AND the washing up. You focus on being a good host. From 6 to 12 guests.

Bistrot de Luxe
155 doors down from a rather famous detective known as Sherlock Holmes you will find Bistrot de Luxe, the final stop on this Sunday roast crusade of Galvin Restaurants. I can already hear the squirms of the purist elite, "Why would we go to a French bistrot for Sunday roast? It's understandable to be unsure, but perhaps you will let us explain why Bistrot de Luxe is one of the best Sunday Roast spots in London?

Chris Galvin and head chef Tom Duffill offer a seasonally inspired classic French menu, but they still deliver everything you are looking for when it comes to a proper good British roast dinner. You can choose between 1 course for £18.50, 2 courses for £23.50 and 3 courses for £28.50, perfect for those of you that just fancy a pint or a glass of wine and a roast. As far as mains go we never like to do the same thing twice, we want you to experience something different at each of our restaurants. Poached Atlantic cod, crushed Maris Piper potatoes & Hollandaise sounds pretty good? Ignore what all those "foodies" say about it being dry and boring, sometimes all you really want is a good old fashioned chicken. How about Norfolk Black Leg chicken breast, bread sauce and watercress? It most definitely will not be dry and it most certainly will not be dull. For those red meat eaters we have a special 40-day aged Galloway beef rump with horseradish cream and all of the traditional trimmings. For desserts you may not find apple crumble and bread and butter pudding, but what's wrong with a beautiful a hot chocolate fondant with brown sugar ice cream? Surely only a fool would turn that down! And breath. Can't you see, there is just so much going on here that you would be a fool to miss out.
