Spitalfields Restaurants - Summer at Galvin HOP Spitalfields Restaurants - Summer at Galvin HOP In the last few weeks it’s finally felt as if summer is actually a season at Galvin HOP, rather than just a grey and windy buffer between a grey and windy spring and uncertain autumn. London has stood glittering in the sunshine, fierce heat reflecting from every polished surface and the terraces of restaurants in Spitalfields have been full of hot and thirsty people in equal parts soaking up and hiding from the sun. It’s been the same across the rest of London and it’s felt at times like every spare scrap of pavement and rooftop has been dragooned into service to provide space to by turns revel in and complain about the heat.

We are in the lucky position of having not one but two outside spaces with the front terrace on pedestrian-only Spital Square providing a sunlit space for British café culture to thrive both over lunch and after work, while the less obvious but increasingly un-secret garden at the rear provides more space than the floor area of most restaurants in Spitalfields to relax in fine style. The secret may be in the availability of copious shade where needed on both – the awning at the front being there to shield those overheating while in the garden an array of umbrellas can be deployed to the same effect. Added to this we’ve had the excitement of both the Euros and Wimbledon on our newly-installed big screens which (if we may be so bold) put those of other restaurants in Spitalfields in the shade: one in the garden which has been especially popular during Wimbledon and of course our huge projector in the front bar where it relayed the best of the Euros to a happy crowd for the best part of a month. Next we will be showing all of the key events from Rio 2016 as our summer of sport continues apace.

To make the most of this weather while it lasts, and the fantastic sporting action of course, we’ve created a range of offers for guests to enjoy which have a distinctly outdoor flavour: the Galvin Dog Deluxe, available either to eat in or take away from our "Grab and Go” window, has been a mainstay of HOP since we opened, as has our fresh, unpasteurised Pilsner Urquell – the closest you can get to drinking the beer directly from the brewery tanks themselves. For the rest of the summer during the week we’re offering a dog and a pint for £12 to bring our two favourites together. If you are in the mood to share we have a classic Butcher’s Board, laden with meaty goodness for two to share, plus a pint of pilsner each for £25 – not quite the price of a main dish at some Spitalfields restaurants. Finally, on Fridays we have succulent chicken skewers served with home-made crisps and salad, barbequed right on the terrace for just £5. Added to this of course we have our usual a la carte menus, brunch at the weekends, a rotating cast of dishes of the day through the week, a Sunday roast of epic proportions and all the drinks you could want to wash them down with including boutique wines from our cutting-edge keg system which we change regularly as our buyer Andrea Briccarello finds new and interesting drops to offer. It has been quite a summer at Galvin HOP and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon…
