Our Story
A Historic, Award-Winning Essex Country Pub
Galvin Green Man, tucked away in the Essex countryside is home to our award winning restaurant and pub set in a listed building dating back to 1341.
Our Bib Gourmand awarded restaurant, focuses on both seasonality and locality of our produce, ensuring the values of the award are at the core of our menu, ‘a friendly establishment that serves good food at moderate prices’.
Galvin Green Man are proud winners of the National Pub & Bar awards Nationally, for the East of England as well as the County. We pride ourselves on our ever changing seasonal menu, local suppliers & our rotating local brewery offering.
A Dog-Friendly Pub with a Garden & Terrace
Our venue is not only home to our full dining room & dog friendly pub but also a beautiful garden with children’s play area as well as bespoke private dining rooms. Our outdoor terrace is the perfect spot for al fresco dining during the warmer months. From our pub snacks to our Sunday roast, we created our Essex hotspot with every detail in mind to create the perfect dining experience.

What is the closest train station and how can I get to the restaurant from there?
The closest station is Chelmsford train station, which is not within walking distance. A taxi before 11pm costs on average £18.10 to the restaurant, or you can use the bus that stops once an hour down the road from Galvin Green Man, with the last bus service back to Chelmsford at 22:43. Local residents can also use DigiGo via the TravelEssex app for on-demand or pre-booked journeys.Is there parking at Galvin Green Man and do you offer accessible parking?
Yes, there is a large car park on site. There are also two clearly designated accessible parking spaces directly in front of the main doors of the restaurant. Off-road parking on the kerb is permitted but vehicles are left at the owner’s risk. Over weekends, bank holidays and event dates, there is an over-flow carpark next to the pub which is clearly signposted.Is Galvin Green Man wheelchair accessible and do you have accessible toilets and baby-changing facilities?
The bar and restaurant are wheelchair accessible via the main entrance, and the pub is accessible using its own main entrance and ramp. To reach the restrooms from the pub, the easiest route is to exit via the front, go around, and re-enter through the main front door as the pub is up two steps from the main bar and restaurant entrance. There are accessible toilets on site, and baby-changing facilities are provided within the accessible toilets.What is the dress code at Galvin Green Man and do you have an area for pre-dinner drinks?
Smart casual. For pre-dinner drinks, there are a few seats at the bar and two sofas in the reception area; if there is space, you can also sit in the pub at any unreserved tables. The garden is available for drinks all year round.FAQ’s Continued: Here
